Amitabh Bachchan – The True Bollywood Icon
Amitabh Bachchan is a legend by all means in the world of Indian Cinema. He had been the undisputed king of Bollywood for years and is still considered to be the one by many of his fans. Movies are still scripted specifically for Amitabh. There are only a few Bollywood stars of his stature.
Amitabh comes from a decent educated family. His father Mr. Harivanshrai Bachchan was a legendary poet in his own right, but Amitabh did not use his father’s name to make his own. He worked hard and struggled and was as a matter of fact rejected at an audition for a job at the radio station for his voice quality!
Amitabh Bachchan, starting from Saat Hindustani and Reshma Aur Shera, made himself known as the angry man of the Indian cinema by his acting in the movies like Zanzeer. His memorable performances in Anand and the like made him known as the one of the best actors of that time. Amitabh also acted along with Dilip Kumar in Shakti and even the die hard fans of Dilip Kumar acknowledged the power of Amitabh’s presence on the screen. It is one of the best movies of Amitabh Bachchan.
Amitabh Bachchan’s role played a memorable role in Sholay – the all time hit movie which is still a favorite.
Amitabh got severely injured while shooting for a movie named Kuli. He finally recovered but he is not the person who would give up shooting. Movies are a passion for Amitabh. When Amitabh Bachchan is on the set of a movie being shot, the other actors enjoy the rare treat of seeing Amitabh live in action and they all vouch for his jovial nature, amazing performances and him being a great human being.
One of my favorite Amitabh Bachchan movie is Sharabi. Other well known movies of Amitabh are Agnipath, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Black, Ankhen and Paa.
Amitabh is deeply involved in spreading the awareness about global warming. He relentlessly campaigns for green energy and conservation of energy to avoid global warming getting worse.
Amitabh has tried a bit of politics too in his life. He had been a close friend of Rajiv Gandhi, the son of Indira Gandhi. His close relationship with the political powers in Delhi made him dirty his hands in politics but he soon returned to Bollywood. A brief lull followed when none of his movies were doing good and the most assumed that Amitabh’s days as a hero were over. Interestingly, Amitabh played the lead role when he was almost about 50 with Shri Devi who was then in her twenties in the movie Badshah.
I got a rare opportunity to see Amitabh during his world tour. As part of his show, he spoke a few dialogs from his old movie Deewar. His dialog delivery was so intense that he made many eyes wet in the dark stadium where the only person visible on the stage was Amitabh Bachchan!
