3 Idiots
The movie 3 Idiots, as the name suggests is a movie about three idiots who are not so much idiots after all. It is funny to the extent that it would keep you engrossed. Would you be like laughing uncontrollably during the whole of this movie – of course not! But still there is plenty to laugh about!
So what is so good about the Three Idiots? Well, the first surprise is that there is nothing idiotic in the movie! The so called 3 idiots are students, and Rancho, who is the head of the trio, uses simple concepts in the daily life to out maneuver his rivals and to help his friends.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, 3 Idiots, is a superb movie produced by Vidhu Vindo Chopra. This might also be the first movie to show what ragging is like in an engineering college in India. I think, just as I did, that is one of the main aspects many movie goers identify with. R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi get impressed by Rancho’s (Amir Khans’) ways of teaching the senior students a lesson that keeps the seniors who rag the new students away from him!
The comedy by Omi is so funny because of the very fact that he does not try to be a comic character! His role is fabulously crafted. When he reads the letter about Virus on the stage, you would be rolling in your seats in laughter! Omi does a wonderful job and is really funny as Chatur in his role!
Another aspect that makes 3 Idiots so enthralling is that the story is so intertwined that it seems many times that the story has ended only to reveal that it has given a start to another story. At the beginning of the second half you might wonder whats left next as[nbsp]the whole story seems to end only to reveal that a more complex part of the story is still remaining! For a moment one might think what the hell is going on but as the movie ends, everything starts falling in place and the whole movie suddenly makes complete sense!
It is interesting to know why Rancho, who prefers to do things in his own ways, never likes attending classes seriously, but is still the person to top the list when the results are declared. When Madhavan and Joshi go to check their results, they are relieved to find their own names – at the bottom of the list. When they do not see Rancho’s name along with theirs, they feel sad for him as they take it that he could not pass. A moment later they find out Rancho has stood first and is named at the top of the list! When they rush to tell Rancho the news he is nowhere to be found! Where did he vanish and why? You would love to see that in the movie.
Can you see this movie with the kids? Sure! But there are some aspects – and[nbsp]those are[nbsp]not just about the guys pulling their pants down – that need to be explained to the kids. For example, when a student commits suicide because of not being able to complete his science project, sets a poor example to the kids. Suicide is not an easy way out of troubles in this life. The sad part is there are multiple suicide scenes in the movie. Most kids have asked why do the guys always pull their pants down and show their backs? Teenagers have wondered why did the guys commit suicide?
Overall, it is a great movie. Simple and elegant. Its worth every penny you spend on the ticket!
